Circle of Care

East Bay Agency for Children's Circle of Care is a unique program that supports children and their families coping with the death of a significant family member. This program helps children and their families process their loss, provide a safe place that helps to normalize grief and learn to cope with their experience through these specialized services:

We will work with your family during an initial intake interview to determine which services we offer will best support you and your family's needs. Circle of Care services are offered at modest cost, on a sliding scale based on financial means, although no one is turned away due to the inability to pay.

Circle of Care offers these services in Spanish: consultation with caregivers and providers and Community Workshops and Trainings for both caregivers and community members.

Peer Support Groups

Our peer support groups enable children and adults to share their stories and to give and receive support from one another. We have several groups available to family members who are coping with either bereavement. The entire family can attend a support group night together and break off into their respective group.

For Children

We offer peer support groups for children; Littles (ages 4-5), School Age (6-12) and Teens (13-18). Theme based art and play activities for managing stress and coping strategies are integrated into the kids groups supporting them in developing skills to process their feelings and challenges.

For Adults

We offer groups for parents and caregivers to meet with other adults and work through the same themes as the kids through talk and some expressive arts. Often the adults share their feelings as well as personal challenges and practical parenting strategies and create community and connection through these meetings.

Groups meet every other week and are facilitated by EBAC staff, interns and volunteers who are well-trained in supporting children with honoring and expressing their emotions.

Resilient Parenting for Bereaved Families Workshops

Resilient Parenting for Bereaved Families is a series of 10 workshops designed for those who are parenting children who have experienced the death of a parent. The program is designed to help you meet the needs of your parentally-bereaved child(ren) while also dealing with your own feelings of grief. The workshop curriculum is based on extensive clinical research showing positive measurable outcomes in families fifteen years after participation in the program, including reducing grief-related distress and mental health complications of both bereaved children and their parents. Workshops are held every other week. RPBF is currently offered in English only.
